“Outstanding experience from start to finish! Lionel was an amazing guide. As a chef for over 20 years, his experience, expertise and professional knowledge of cuisine raised the standard for excellence. All the dishes we had were delicious! What made the experience even better was Lionel’s knowledge and explanation of each dish. He gave us an understanding of its origin, components, varieties, and history of the restaurant/Hawker chefs who prepared them. Each moment of the tour was filled with history/cultural lessons and travel tips. He even added some special “extras.” We definitely felt as if we truly “tasted” Singapore! We highly recommend Lionel and this tour!”

“Our guide, Gary, was brilliant. He was so attentive to the entire group, made sure we all had plenty to eat and enjoy. He had some fascinating local knowledge and organised a fantastic tour across the city, showing us multiple areas and ensuring we were happy, well fed and well informed. The cheapest Michelin experience you'll ever have. Hugely recommended.”

“My family, large group of 6 adults with mostly elders and 2 kids from infant to young child, came to Singapore this Oct. 2025 for a vacation. I researched multiple food tours before settling on A Chef's Tour Singapore. Although I booked non-private, due to the size of our group, it became private. From the booking, confirmation and reminder, the company was professional throughout. All information was clear and communicated in advance. They also inquired and confirmed our allergies and dietary restrictions. In our group, we had one mild peanut allergy and two vegetarians. On the day of the tour, the company sent a Whatsapp connecting me to our guide, Lionel. Lionel also messaged me on Whatsapp. Meetup spot was easy to find base on the clear description. Half of our group came late due to problem with transportation. Lionel remained professional and accommodating. One member of our group cannot walk extensively so we had a wheelchair. Since we started the tour, Lionel paced it so that we all could keep up. We walked through Chinatown, then use MRT to Little India and ended at Little Arabia. We started at Maxwell Food Center then walk through Chinatown trying food with Chinese and Malaysian influence. The highlight of this part of the tour was the soft, juicy soya chicken rice of Hawker Chan. Hawker Chan was a small stall when it received Michelin 1 star and became known as the cheapest, most affordable michelin-star meal. It was also the first hawker food that received this honor. Everybody in my group happily enjoyed this dish while Lionel shared with us the history of Hainanese chicken rice and how it's cooked differently than the Cantonese version. He then explained the Singaporean version and included a fun fact that the most expensive chicken rice is S$40 at the Hilton hotel. Next, we tried appam in Little India. The sweet version was very simple. Take a piece, dip in pink sugar then milk and enjoy. The savory version included 4 different sauces - curry, lentil, tomato-based, and bean. Most of the sauces are not spicy. We also enjoyed calamansi drinks. The drinks are a bit heavy on the sugar but calamansi was nicely fragrant. Anyone who loves lemon should try calamansi and yuzu (Japanese lemon). The kids in my group enjoyed the food thoroughly. Lionel shared with us one of his favorite dishes. It looked roti on the outside but with lamb inside. The lamb was well seasoned and quite tasty. Dipping in the curry sauce increased the aroma and flavors. We were full after Little India but couldn't resist the dessert in Little Arabia. By the time we got there, it was sunset. The low light made the mosque glowed. In this picturesque setting, two rows of Turkish restaurants lined the street with a hidden gem. Lionel led us into one of the restaurants. After 15 minutes came the best dessert I have ever eaten - knafeh with Turkish ice cream. I had knafeh before but not like this. This knafeh was served warm with warm milk poured on, topped with a piece of imported Turkish ice cream. The balance between sweet, nutty and creamy blends with the crunch, and a wonderful contrast between hot and cold make for a mouthful of happiness. This dish is the most memorable of all the food I had during my four days in Singapore. For those who fear sweet dessert, do not hesitate to try this dish out. Thanks to Lionel, I'll be seeking this guilty pleasure out whenever I'm in Singapore. Our guide, Lionel, is himself a chef with a deep, humored look at food history. Why certain dishes in Singapore look different than its Malaysian versions, what strange vegetables in the market are used for what medicinal purpose, etc. are just a few of the funny, interesting stories he shared in the four-hour tour. We were lucky to get Lionel to guide us. We will always look back to this experience with a smile. And hope to see Lionel again on our next trip to Singapore.”

“The different variety of food and the knowledge of our tour guide Jane. It was an excellent four hours spent. I just didn’t like having to eat in same plate as other people throughout the tastings.”
