What you can expect

Playa del Carmen food tour - Most visitors come to Playa del Carmen for turquoise water, beach clubs and frozen margaritas. But just a few blocks back from the Caribbean shoreline the soundtrack changes. Tortillas slap against hot griddles, charcoal spits and crackles beneath hanging cuts of meat. Playa isn't an ancient food capital like Oaxaca or Puebla. It's something arguably more interesting: a modern Mexican frontier town built by migrants from every corner of the country, each bringing a piece of home with them.
